Vital Information To Help Lose Weight And Keep It Off

By Lee Ann Dobbins

Of the thousands of diet plans out there, many will help you lose some weight, but they are not known for helping you to lose weight and keep it off.

You have probably experienced some fast weight loss when going on a 'diet'; this is because you have lost excess fluid from your body. This isn't sustainable, and as soon as you go off the diet, the pounds go back on. You need to lose fat to lose weight.

There is only one healthy way to lose that body fat; you need to eat fewer calories than your body burns as fuel. To burn fat, you need to eat less food and move your body more.

Starvation diets aren't the answer either, because there are certain nutrients that you need to be healthy and maintain a healthy weight. The answer is to eat a balanced, nutritionally-sound diet and enjoy some form of physical activity every day.

Try this plan: eat 5 or 6 smaller meals or snacks a day. This keeps you feeling full, keeps your metabolism moving and prevents much of the deprived feelings associated with losing weight. Make sure you eat a normal amount, not more, in a day; obviously, "main" meals will be smaller than they used to be.

Eat protein at every snack or meal; it prevents hunger. Eat more fruit and vegetables because they contain the macro- and micro-nutrients that your body needs to work properly so you can lose weight. Don't eat highly processed food, because all the goodness has been processed out of it. Wholegrain breads and cereals, skim dairy, nuts and legumes should be part of your daily diet.

You can't lose weight and keep it off unless you exercise your body. Any physical activity that gets your breathing and heart rate up is perfect, and do it every day. Exercise burns extra calories, builds muscle which burns extra calories, gives you more energy and makes you feel good.
