By Sam Smith

Print medium is a popular and powerful way of distributing info to many different types of people, and is apparent even these days. The current form of the printing services industry is a result of years of change & evolution in printing trends and techniques. Today it can fulfill almost any need of the customers connected to printing and its additional requirements.

Bulk printing services first originated somewhere around the--00's when Gutenberg invented the world's first printing press and the whole concept of relief printing came into being. A slight projection of the printed image from the background, like it is in a rubber stamp, is a key feature of relief printing. This kind of printing has however become a rarity these days, though not completely obsolete.

Technology has always been a motivating factor behind innovations in printing processes that have been adopted down the years. Modern printing methods are quite diverse and have a range of uses. In fact, most clients now feel puzzled with the printing options available in the industry.

Offset printing is a well known printing technique favoured by most printers these days. This method uses a limited quantity of ink to print the image on metal plates first and then it transfers it onto paper. This cheap and fast method of printing is highly preferred and used when mass printing is required.

Other popular forms of printing that have evolved over time are electrostatic printing, which can be compared to photocopying, and thermal printing, which creates the print impression by heating coated thermal paper selectively.

However, digital printing is the latest technological advancement in this area. As is clear from its name it makes use of a computer to create an image, which is then analysed and if found to be accurate, printed onto paper. But this quick and trustworthy technique works best in situations where only a few prints are required. The facility of customized printing with this technique has led to computer form printing, where a standard format is used to print items like receipts and invoices whose contents differ according to the different needs of each print.

The use of the internet in printing has been another huge leap for the industry. Printing service providers have their commercial websites that customers can use from the comfort of their homes or offices and register orders after seeing online printing samples.

Technological innovations have always brought about important positive changes in printing techniques and the quality of the prints. The great news is that this trend of progress is going to continue in the future as well, bringing favourable advancements to enhance efficiency and lower costs.
