How To Select The Flower Bouquet That Matches Your Special Event

By Tracy Webb

You have to be ready for an assault on your senses before walking into a flower shop for a bouquet, as the sheer variety of bouquets put up for sale will confound you to the point of indecision. But the good news is that you can minimise your options keeping the event in mind, as different flowers have different connotations associated with them and hence each is appropriate for a specific event. Knowledge of this meaning will help you to avoid those bouquets that won't suit the occasion, and will help you zero in on the correct one.

The concept of flowers projecting human emotions is believed to have originated long ago, and was widely popular during the Victorian era. Red roses are for true love, and yellow ones represent platonic love or just simple friendship. Tulips and carnations too communicate messages and feelings according to their diverse colours.

Weddings are special occasions and most guests are expected to present bouquets to the couple. In such situations, the best bet is to have bouquets and arrangements that reflect the spirit or season of the wedding. For instance, spring flowers can be gifted at a springtime marriage, or an arrangement of red and white flowers can be used for a classy and traditional affair.

Bright flowers that reflect joy, like roses, daisies and chrysanthemums must be chosen for anniversaries and birthdays in tune with the mood of merriment. For academic achievements like graduation, the choice of flowers must be both cheerful and subtle. A bunch or bouquet of lilies of diverse colours that bring a wonderful visual contrast is a great option for the occasion.

Sombre flowers like white carnations are the most appropriate for an event of bereavement, like the recent death of a loved one. By giving a white bouquet or wreath you wish the soul of the departed everlasting peace. A sick person confined to his or her bed must be gifted with a bunch of brightly coloured tropical blooms, as such colours of vitality are seen as a wish for restoration of health and bringing the sick person back to his feet in no time.

Finding the right bouquet for the event in a flower shop might seem like looking for a needle in a haystack, but advice of a good florist will make the job uncomplicated for you. If you are buying flowers from a well-known florist in Singapore, then the salespeople there will happily guide you in making the correct choice for your objective.
