Ambos Mundos Hotel In Havana

By Jose Maurette Garces

The eclectic styled Hotel Ambos Mundos opened its doors in the late 1920's and since then has become an intimate and cosy landmark that stands out amongst all Havana Hotels due to its history. In the early 1930's, the American writer, Ernest Hemingway, dwelled in the room 511 in this hotel, he wrote the first draft of For whom the bell tolls since he found the hotel "a good place to write".

The 49 standard rooms in Ambos Mundos are quite small. Functionality is what defines this hotel. Its rooms for people who only want to come back to their hotel to shower and change before heading out to the next adventure, for this accommodation is clean and comfortable but not in any way glamorous.

The Hotel Ambos Mundos offers one of the few venues in the Old Town for meetings. It is equipped with all kinds of audio-visual means, including video, datashow projectors and acrylic whiteboards. Besides, it works constantly as an art gallery since the beginning of the works by Jorge Caunedo, the contractor and the architect who modernized the hotel.

Also paintings of Yanes, Casiguaya and other painters that illustrate the connection between culture and tourism are shown in Ambos Mundos Saloons, something very valuable in order to enjoy the real cultural Cuban spirit during your holidays.

If you are looking for a nice place to hang around then you have to try its roof terrace. It is one of the highest buildings in Havana so you can enjoy excellent views of the Old Town and the entrance of Havana's Harbour.

If you are looking for a good hotel in Havana with small yet very comfortable and airy rooms; whose rates are not too expensive then I strongly recommend the Ambos Mundos Hotel. Its location, service and rooms put Ambos Mundos Hotel at the top of the list of the best hotels in Havana. The fact that the American writer Ernest Hemingway stayed in this hotel over 2 years also make it very appealing to travellers.
