Evolution of Massage Therapies and Techniques

By Kenzo Tenma

There is no doubt that massage services have a place in the medical world. While they are not technically classified as standard medicine, many doctors still recognize that they are beneficial and should be recommended to certain patients.

All parts of our body, including joints and muscles, are integral to our proper functioning. Through the use of massage, these parts can be greatly alleviated, allowing us to live better.

Surprisingly, massage therapy has not been around for long in the United States. It was only in the 1930s that massage started to be widely seen throughout the nation.

In the 1970s, massage started being applied to sports players, instead of being used primarily as a post-operative recovery means. Coaches found that massage was very useful in helping their players recover from injury and general fatigue.

A variety of massage methods have become popular and are in huge demand as a solution towards combating hectic schedules and stress ridden lifestyles. Massage therapy treatment involves using a padded bed and a head support that lets the client breathe easily during massage.

Ergonomic chairs that are easily transportable and do not need disrobing are useful for corporate massages as well as in malls for demonstrations. These special chairs enable masseuses to make housecalls, and they can easily bring the ergonomic devices with them.

To further make a massage feel better, a multitude of oils are often used. This includes mustard oil and coconut oil, which actually do work quite well. Sometimes salt is used in conjunction with the oil to increase efficacy even more.

Massage therapy is professionally practiced by therapists and athletic trainers, so these people do know what they are doing. These massage services are an essential and mandatory feature of wellness resorts and spas, which are availed of by many on holiday packages.
