Choosing The Appropriate Type Of Casket For The Last Journey Of The Departed

By Abel Reyes

Death is usually followed by overbearing sorrow and distress, leaving family members and friends inconsolable and sentimentally overwhelmed by the departure of a loved one. However, you still have to make arrangements for the funeral service and the most critical thing that you would require is a casket.

Choosing an appropriate casket is very difficult, as you would want to purchase a good product at the correct price when you are just not in a mental state to bargain. When the departed's religious or social beliefs specify certain requirements for the casket or the deceased himself has made his preferences known in this respect, then the choice of a casket becomes much easier.

Caskets can be of various shapes, sizes and designs, with rate tags varying accordingly. They are generally divided into two key categories, funeral caskets and burial caskets. Funeral caskets allow for the visitors to glimpse the deceased during ceremonies but burial caskets are normally only used at the time of burial.

Caskets come in various materials, like wood, metal, fibre glass, and marble. Generally wooden ones are preferred by tradition bound families, and they can choose from caskets made of maple, oak, mahogany etc. Wooden caskets are of good quality and look very elegant and nice when polished, but these also cost more than caskets made of other materials. Alternatively, metal caskets come cheaper and are available in a range of finishes like bronze, steel, and copper, and in various designs and colours too.

The need to be environment friendly among modern consumers has opened up a growing market for a wide variety of caskets made of materials that do not hurt the environment. With these, the used material bio degrades and does not result in any damage to the environment. These could be your best tribute to the deceased if he or she believed strongly in safeguarding the environment.
