High Hopes for the Philadelphia Eagles in '09

By James Margolis

Hopes are high for the 09' Eagles. With the acquisition of Michael Vick, the Eagles fans should expect some wild cat offense perhaps - if Vick doesn't amount to much then he wasn't worth the headache.

The team's week one trouncing of the Carolina Panthers showcased this, as McNabb lit up the field and beat the Panthers by a score of 38-10.

The Panthers nearly made the Super Bowl last season, and had one of the strongest finishes in the league. This was by all means an impressive victory, and the offense and defense alike both played their parts.

The benching of McNabb was the turning point of the 08' season and gave the Eagles the spark they needed. The eventually lost in the playoffs but the optimism to advance further in the playoffs in 09' is there.

RB Brain Westbrook is the spoon that stirs the pot if you will. If Westbrook is healthy throughout the entire season, he is a player who can take a game over and carry the team as much as McNabb can. Westbrook is now 30 years old, his peak days might be behind him but he is still a major contributor to the Eagles offense.

New Orleans won easily by a score of 48-22. The Eagles are now 1-1 in a very competitive division, where every win will matter.

The Eagles are contenders to win the NFC East and possibly the NFC conference. Many believe Michael Vick will not be a major factor in the success in the Eagles - who will be is McNabb and how healthy he can stay during the course of the season.

Kevin Kolb has performed very well in McNabb absence - throwing for 300 yards in two of his starts, for a back up QB that is almost unheard of. Kolb would be taken by many teams as a starting QB if the Eagles were willing to part with him - that isn't likely to happen.
