Are Stretch Mark Creams Any Good?

By Jane Johnson

Most girls and women have stretch marks in areas around the thighs, breasts, butt and pelvic juncture (where their thighs meet their waist) due to rapid weight changes, sudden height growth and pregnancy. Stretch marks are a result of tissues underneath the skin being suddenly pulled by fast growth and/or stretching of the skin. It is common in adolescent girls and boys due to sudden growth spurts that happen around their age. Stretch marks are often difficult to remove.

Even though stretch marks can fade over time, they are rarely completely removed without the help of an effective stretch mark cream or expensive dermatological treatments, such as aggressive microdermabrasion treatment or laser therapy.

Collagen is protein which makes up the connective tissues in your skin. Even though skin is fairly elastic, when the skin is overstretched, the normal production of collagen is disrupted. This causes stretch marks, which looks like white scars on the skin. Stretch marks stand out from the rest of the skin, due to their bright white or pinkish/purplish pigment.

You can clear stretch marks with a little patience and determination by rubbing an effective stretch mark cream to the affected areas. Applying firm pressure while massaging the cream to the area will help absorption as well as add pliability to the area and increase circulation, which will help to regulate the pigmentation back to normal. Improvement in the marks and coloration should be seen within a few weeks of using the correct technique when administering the product.

The most effective stretch mark creams in the market today work by increasing teh skins elasticity. This prevents and treats stretch marks by preventing the root cause, the lack of elasticity and overstretching of the skin. If you are unsure, I suggest to do a little investigation by yourself, into stretch mark removal and you may find some amazing results from other people who have tried them.

The most common suggestion to get rid of stretch marks are to visit dermatologists for expensive and time-consuming therapies which help to 'blend' stretch marks with the rest of the skin, rather than remove the stretch marks completely.

Another common suggestion will be to use tanning creams or machines to cover up the problem areas. While this does improve the overall appearance, it doesn't actually remove the stretch marks or remedy the root problem, it just temporarily hides them. It likens itself to treating the symptom instead of the disease itself.
